Does anyone use the Fender Mustang bass?

Tagged As: Fender Mustang Bass

Question:
Does anyone use the Fender Mustang bass? I'm curious how the shorter neck feels and how it sounds. I'm looking to buy a fender bass and so far like the 75 reissue w/ maple neck and the Mexican standard P-bass

Answer:
I played one in the '70s and really liked it. I tried the MIJ re-issue when I was looking to buy a short-scale for my daughter to learn on and it was actually better than I remembered the original, particularly with 30 years younger Japanese electrics. The neck is closer to a J than a P. In the end I decided against spending GB£500 on a learner bass and bought an Epiphone EB-0 instead, which is good value but, unsurprisingly, not a Mustang. Think Tina Weymouth on Psychokiller and go for it! If you particularly want a short-scale the new Epi Elite EB-3 looks nice, albeit very different to the Fender sound.
