Question:
My brother gave me a Gibson R.D standard. I have no idea how old it is or if it's any good. Anyone know about them or have a book on Gibsons? I could get serial numbers off of it if neccessary. I'm curious about the R.D Standard history.
Answer:
The guitar you have is probably one of the 1977 or newer reintroduced. Which Gibson does it resemble? A Les Paul, Firebird, or Explorer? Gibson had patent trouble with Fender in 1965 with the reverse body guitars. So in 1967 they reversed them and called them the non reverse body. In 1977 they reintroduced this series of guitars looking like the Firebird and the Explorer. Gibson called these the RD series. The RD artist was the best one and it has 2 humbuckers, active electronics, and a fine tuning tailpiece.
