why you can't purchase a new gibson or epiphone at guitar center any longer?

Tagged As: Guitar Center Gibson

Question:
I was wondering why you can't purchase a new gibson or epiphone at guitar center any longer. No doubt Gibson didn't care for guitar center's marketing techniques

Answer:
the Henry J. era Gibson/Epiphone company is not really known for scruples. I'd be REAL surprised if they are the least bit concerned about Guitar Center's ethics or their way of dealing with customers. The departure of the Gibson line from GC has been debated a lot around here. My opinion (and I think others concur) is that Guitar Center said to Gibson Hey, we can't make enough money selling your guitars, do something about it and Gibson said no way. This is something that any brand selling through GC has to face eventually. The smaller guys who really need GC's volumes will do what they can to meet their demands. This involves either giving GC a bigger discount, or finding some way to prop up retail prices enough that GC doesn't get caught on their low price guarantee very often.
