Question:
I'm thinking of buying my first bass. I play regular guitar (not to infer that basses are irregular) so I have learned how to check out a guitar like instrument structurally. I'm just not too up on bass product reputation and approximate value yet. I found a nice bass at the local pawn shop that I like. It is an Ibanez Soundgear four string. I think the model # is SR 300. I like the satin finish on the neck, the 24 fret rosewood fingerboard, and the nearly mint condition black gloss finish. The shop has two other basses but the aren't up at the same level as the Ibanez in my opinion. The shop is wanting $269 for the bass and it does not come with a case. I would evaluate the instrument to be in like new to excellent condition. The neck looks brand new and the body is flawless. Is this a good deal for this instrument?
Answer:
Ibanez soundgear basses are easy to play, that makes it easier to start playing bass. I have an Ibanez SR800 (my first bass, after playing guitar for years). Also you can pick up an Ibanez gig bag for around $40, or an Ibanez case for around $100. I am not sure what a SR 300 sells for new, but $269 seems kind of high for a used one. The SR400 sells for around $440 new. You can get a Fender brand new for $270, which is probably a better bass, any way
