Question:
I am going to take up bass as a second instrument. Since I am not completely a beginner I will probably learn pretty fast, so I need a bass that is not real expensive but also one that I will not grow out of too fast. I found a used Peavey Fury at a local music shop, it is in great condition (just a few small scratches), and it feels comfortable. If it makes any difference it has passive pickups. Is anyone familiar with this bass and is it worth $120.
Answer:
I think the Peavey Fury bass (and its forerunner the T20) are some of the best sleepers out there. They are solid, cheap, and sound great. I own several vintage P and J Fenders but they don't come close to the Peaveys for sound. The Fury goes to the live gigs, the T20 goes to the studio and my vintages sit in the closet. I must confess that I have modified both Peaveys by adding a Seymore Duncan Quarter Pounder jazz pickup in a bridge position and used a pan-pot as a pickup selector.
