Wasn't there a Rickenbacker 'signature model' for John Lennon?

Tagged As: John Lennon Rickenbacker

Question:
Wasn't there a Rickenbacker 'signature model' for John Lennon? Are they expensive collectors items now? I believe his guitar was a shorter scale, is that correct? I remember seeing a Rickenbacker with his signature and one of his little drawings of him and Yoko, but I never knew if this was something they regular produced. I would imagine so, they even made a 'signature model' for Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles, so surely John would have had one

Answer:
Tony Bacon's excellent new book on Rickenbacker (browse it in a book store if you don't buy it!) explains the history of Rickenbacker's vintage series re-issue of the two models John used to play, as well as their more recent limited-edition actual signature model you refered to complete with his signature and self doodle on the pick guard.
