I'm trying this thread again as I got little response on it a while back.

I remember seen Dave Brubeck back in November of 1979 in North Carolina and his son played a Rickenbacker 4001 bass and did a great solo during the show. He also did a great trombone solo. I agree that a Rick bass with the front pickup and some treble rolled off sounds nice and deep. You have to crank them because it seems like the pickups are slightly weaker than other types of pickups. I cannot remember what type of amp he used though
