Question:
I have a question for you fellow bass-maniacs. I played a 5 string Ibanez bass (don't remember the model number) which had active pickups, beautiful transluscent finish, and an incredibly fast neck. Some time later I played some new Yamaha 5 string which was also a very fine bass. But, I don't know if it's just me, but the Yamaha's strings seemed to be spaced wider. Does anybody know about the spacing of Ibanez 5 strings versus other basses? I personally found the Ibanez to be more playable, probably cuz I've got small hands.

I've had the chance to play both narrow and wide spaced Ibanez's. They and other companies are quite capable of offering different spacings on different models. My recent experience of having 5- and 6-string basses with different spacings leads me to advise: find one that's similar to what your used to if you plan to continue playing 4-string. Consistency will make your life simpler and easier.
