Thinking of buying a Squier Standard Stratocaster, red maple fret, with a Squier sidekick amp. This will be a gift for an aspiring guitarist who has been practicing on an acoustic for several months. I had considered the Affinity Strat, but after doing more research I came to the conclusion that the Standard Strat will be a better long-term investment as his skill level increases.
Answer:
I think so. Squiers can be quite decent guitars (though as with anything, there can be duds). If the basic structure of the guitar (the body and neck) is sound, the parts can be upgraded later. You're not paying for those parts now. I have a couple of guitars based on Squier necks, and they are excellent.
