I need to buy a small mixer for a guitar/vocal rack and I am looking at the Alesis Studio 12R because it is a true rack mount. Has anybody used one of these? How does it compare to a Mackie 1202VLZ?

-I have the 12R. I really only needed 4 or 5 channels but I wanted a rackmount unit and for the price, it's always nice to have more channels than needed. I found it to be very quiet. The only problem I've run into with it is that The phantom power isn't switchable on each channel, only a master switch. I'm thinking about modifying it myself to add switches. I don't think it would compromise any of the sonic qualities of the unit. Alesis gets a bad rap for the most part. I think they give a good bang for the buck for project studio budgets. With the exception of their monitors, their equipment is better than average. By the way, don't count on the 12R for EQ'ing. For input mixing with effects loops, you should be satisfied.
