Question:
I've been gigging my Peavey KB300 amp for the last 15 years and it is now starting to fail and needs replacing. I've been very happy with the Peavey and hence not bothered looking at amplifier developments. This has now left me in the predicament that I have no idea what is out there and which ones will do the job as well as the Peavey has for me. I need a combo that'll fit in the boot of the car, it can't be any less than 150watts and must have a minimum of 3 inputs and a line out. So far by trawling across the net, I have come across the following candidates :- Roland KC550, Hartke KM200, Alesis Sumo 300. The Roland seems to get very reliable reviews, the Hartke hasn't been reviewed anywhere and the Sumo has a mixed bag of reviews. Would anyone like to offer their own experiences on amplifiers or any suggestions as to which amplifier to go for. I'm based in the UK and there are very few music stores around, so being able to hear one for myself is a little difficult.
Answer:
Why it the Peavey failing? Have you had a tech look at it? Ask in your favourite music shop about repairs. It's possible to replace the driver and electrics can be fixed. It's just my 2p's worth but I'd suggest you try and keep it going.
