How does an Alesis synth produce sound ???

Tagged As: Alesis Synth

Question:
I just bought an Alesis QS6.2... which claims to have a 16mb memory for, I assume, sampled sounds. This thing has about 500 different 'sounds', so I'm thinking some are generated from sampled sounds, and some are generated 'digitally'....The question is (if my assumptions are right), which sounds are sampled and which are pure digital? Also, when sampled sounds are used, exactly what is sampled, say for a piano ... every note, 1 note, ???? How big are the samples, etc ???
