Question:
I am using a Behringer Eurorack mixer to mix 6 mics into two outs that go to Mackie powered speakers. Fine. I now want to add aTascam US-122 to record the live mix. I am sending the 6 mics to both sub and main. Main outs got to the powered speakers. Sub outs go to line inputs of the US-122. Line outs of the US-122 go back to the mixer's Tape In, and tape is sent to main out. When I do this, I get a static-y hum, which I do not get if I play back the US-122 into a home stereo. Anyone have any thougts on this? Thanks very much.
Answer:
First off, why have you chosen to send the recorded output from your US-122 back to the mixer's main output? Normally doing this would create a phase variance and all sorts of nastiness would result. Not sure what the exact configuration of your mixer is, but if you are doing this for monitoring purposes, you'd want to be able to send the output of the US-122 to possibly a seperate stereo bus (in the Eurorack series, ususally through a stereo line channel, and then assigning to a seperate stereo bus from there) so that you can monitor this signal seperately from your original main mix. Hope that helps. I'm not sure, mind you, where the static would come in, but this could very well be a partial result of Behringer's notoriously erratic behaviour.
