Jacking between a Behringer UB802 mixer through a Digitech and back?

Tagged As: Behringer Ub802 Mixer

Question:
I have a Behringer UB802 mixer and a digitech rp200 which I've jacked together with output to my computer's sound card. Nothing fancy, I just want to be able to mix stuff together on the computer. I initially had the equipment set up with the guitar feeding into the digitech and then the digitech plugging into the mixer. The main outs then feeds into the sound card. Works fine. Someone suggested that I should be able to utilize the FX Send jack to feed to the digitech rp200 and then back into the mixer for more flexibility. So I did this and jacked the output of the digitech back into channel 2 of the ub802. Apparently not a go because I get some lovely feedback in return. What's the suggested way to do this or is it even possible with the mixer? After I jack from the FX Send into an effects box, how do I bring it back into the mixer without the...how would I describe it...the 'moo sound' from one of those tube toys that you flip upside down?

Answer:
Make sure you have the Effect Send control on Channel 2 turned all the way down. What you're probably doing is sending the output of Channel 2 into the effect processor and then sending the output of the effect processor into Channel 2. That's feedback. The conventional way to connect the output of an effect processor back into a mix is through the Effect Return (or Aux Return) path. There's probably a pair of jacks and a control for that. Look at your mixer manual. A good reason to connect the effect output to a channel is so that you can use the channel fader and EQ for extra control of the effect's sound. But here's another question. Does the RP200 have a specific input for a guitar? Does your mixer also have a specific input for a guitar? If the RP200 does, but the mixer doesn't, the guitar will probably sound better going into it than directly into the mixer.
