Question:
I've decided to go the budget route and team my Boss GT-3 with a suitable PA amp. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a 'guitar amp' is nothing more than a PA amp with lots of bells and whistles. It follows, then, that my money will go farther on a PA amp than it will on a guitar amp in terms of the amplifier itself. Since the GT-3 has more bells and whistles than I need already, these features on a guitar amp would be largely redundant for me.
Answer:
Getting a good guitar sound in a p.a. configuration will cost. I use an FBT Maxx 4A powered speaker. About 33 lbs. Guess it is about 400 watts all told. That is for playing out. I run everything through a behringer mixer at the front end. Guitar sounds fine. At home I use a little 3 watt battery powered amp, which little devil sounds mighty fine for what it is, as it is specifically designed for gitfiddle. I don't have a beefy guitar amp per se now, as the maxx 4 covers ALL the bases.
