Question:
We got a stereo power amp. It's actually two separate amps, right and left. What we wanna do is run our Mains off one side and our monitors on the other. Unfortunately we use 2 mains but 4 monitors, daisy chaining the monitors, which I guess leads to a different ohm load than the 2 mains.
Answer:
Are the monitors all 8 ohms? And the mains...? What kind of amp are you running? As long as you're not going out of spec on your impedances, you should be OK, but you might be sucking headroom from your FOH mix. That'll depend a lot on hard hard you run each channel, which will probably be a function of how sensitive (usually read efficient) your cabs are. It also depends on the power supply design in your amp. I've been doing the same thing for years, with no problems. The elk seem to like it just fine . Of course, you realize that the second you do this, your chick singer talent is gonna demand a separate monitor mix, so you'll be carrying all that shit anyway...
