Compast Flash for Recording media?

Tagged As: Recording Media

Question:
Is it possible that one day this type of media will be used extensively for multi-track recording? Would it be fast? Faster than a hard drive? Could it support high track counts? Can you imagine 100gig Flash cards the size of a silver dollar with insanely fast access times? I'm drooling...anyway, I was curious to get some informed opinions

Answer:
Yes of course it's the future; but then again this shit has been around since DOS ramdives. I ran my Pro Tools off of a ramdrive in windows 98. it ran super fast but was a pain in the ass to setup. I think firewire drives are fast enough; the average user would not notice the speed increase. I don't really care about the size of the storage medium, I have ample space to spare. Hard drives are small now-a-days, I can get a 120gb drive that is the same physical size as a 2gb internal drive. I have 230gb of external drives and they are easy to transport. I don't really care about the size. For me, real-time access and real time processing is good enough.
