Question:
I've seen some of the talk about being able to record numerous audio tracks simultaneously and I'm a bit confused. After I get a midi file the way I like it in CWPA 8, I solo each track and record it dry and non-panned to audio. After all the tracks are recorded one by one I typically open all of them in Cool Edit in a multi-track session and pan, adjust volume, add effects, etc. then mix down to a stereo wav. file. I'm using a SBlive as a sampler and a Yamaha SW1000XG as a tone module/audio card.
Answer:
I don't know of anyway or any single board that will allow you to do this directly from the computer as you can with one midi track at a time. Seems to me that the only way to get this done is to have your midi run out to a multi-output sound module (they used to make them and I asume they still do) and then run that output to a multi input audio card. Alternativley you could have the multi-output midi sound module go to an external tape/harddisk recorder and fly the tracks back in. Even so, you would need a multi-input audio card as Joel suggested.
