about syncing a laptop to a multitrack tape

Tagged As: Multitrack Tape

Question:
what is the minimum equipment i need to be able to use my laptop for field overdubs and then print it back on the multitrack tape machine.

Answer:
Oh, probably. There's a utility that comes with the Music Quest MQX32M MIDI interface that generates time code, but you can't put that in your laptop. There's a CD around that has time code on it. You could probably use that if you can locate it. It might be the Mix Reference CD. You want to have time code on the multitrack recorder and sync your laptop to it while dumping a reference mix on to the computer. Then you can do your overdubs to the reference mix and then sync the laptop up to the multitrack again when you want to transfer them back over.
