guitar case repair question

Tagged As: Guitar Case Repair

Question:
I was at an open mic this week and another performer knocked over my guitar ! Lucky for me it was in a plastic hardshell case. The guitar was not damaged but the case now has a large crack . whats the best way to repair this. I'm open to any ideas from duct tape on up!

Answer:
this is great news! It is bad form to deliberately damage your own case to show it has been around...and beat-up cases are real prestige items. I have a cardboard case I paid about a dollar for and it has been repaired with aluminum straps and pop-rivets, aluminum strips and copper rivets, and lots of duct tape, but not enough to appear I have no imagination. I have a small hole in it that was a gift to me from a German airline and over this, I put a wound bandage like you might put on an arm...and it is stained with iodine to prevent future infections...and it has worked, too. My guitar and case was left with a luthier for awhile and he said that everyone that came in was interested in the case. (He didn't say if anyone was interested in the guitar inside of said case, however.) So...don't repair your case too neatly! Be imaginative. The repair should only render the case safe enough to protect the guitar. Don't worry about how good it can look; but with how bad.
