Question:
Is the RNC a guitar compressor? I got given the impression it was more of a studio tool type thing. If you're looking for a compressor, you should be able to find something more guitar-oriented which will be far better suited to your needs: a Dynacomp or something. So does anyone have any other suggestions?
Answer:
Do you have any other effects yet? I'd suggest trying out some choruses, flangers, phasers etc., maybe tremolo, wah-wah, and of course a smattering of overdrives and distortions. If you're totally new to the world of effects, it may be worth getting a low-end multi-FX such as the Zoom or the AX1G: you'll be able to try out pretty much every sound out there and work out what you need from each effect (e.g. if you get into delay, do you need 300ms? A second? Four seconds?) and so you know what the effect itself sounds like so that when you go out to try phasers (for example) you're not so bowled over by the sound of phasing itself that you can't really distinguish between the options.
