Question:
I've been thining about building myself some guitar effects instead of buying. Should be cheaper and more fun that way. However, design takes more time than than I have right now, so I'll be building from schematics or plans in magazines. My problem is that I don't have any schematics, I haven't seen any (that I remember, anyway) in the many years I've subscribed to Radio-Electronics, and I couldn't find any good references to guitar effects circuits in the Readers Guide to Periodical Literature. So, my question for the net collective conscious is: does anyone know where such plans/circuits can be found? Do guitar magazines (which I've never read) ever run technical articles on guitar effects? Have any of you dual guitar/electronics types ever seen any plans in magazines or the like? In general, does anyone have any clues for me at all?
Answer:
I recommend Craig Anderton's Tube sound fuzz as an excellent first project, and one of the few that may be cheaper than buying something equivalent from a store... schematics or plans in magazines. He had a regular column in there, and also there were many special features. Craig has also written for a magazine called Electronic Musician, Polyphony, and others I just don't know about. I commend your use of the library!---an author search will help you out here. Some dude named Graf has 4 encyclopedic editions of electronics circuits from various magazines. There are always several guitar-related circuits in there. Most circuits are reprints from popular magazines or data books.
