I'm going to be buying my first electric guitar in a week or so. I have a cheap accoustic which I've been using for about 6 months, but I decided I really wanted an electric guitar too. Due to limited finances the guitar is about the only thing I can afforst, a friend is lending me his amp to get me started. What I'd like to know is if there is any decent software around that adds effects like an effects pedal ? I saw one program being used once but it was very slow, sound came from speakers about 1/2 second or more after strumming guitar, cant remember the name of that program though

What kinds of effects are you looking for? If you're getting an electric guitar, I'm assuming you're getting an amp also. You can get one of them little practice amp, almost all of them has distortion and reverb effects on it. I have little one from Crate(about $100) and works great. Two great tips: 1) The Zoom 505 II (not the 505 I, Andy V. *LOL*) - with 33 effects (all sorts) and very cheap and awesome for studio recording and home jamming 2) Buy a Sound Blaster Live! and play thru yr PC - it has lots of cool guitar effects... I've got both and that truly rocks
