Building guitar effects using onling information

Tagged As: Guitar Effects Schematic

Question:
does anyone know of some really good internet sites with good resources that I can use for building effects. Iv'e checked them all out and there's a pretty small ring that just repeats it's self. All roads lead to Roam it seems. Every link I check out (and I do it a lot and quite freequently) has the same schematics or the same links to the infamous builders like Philpot, or Aron Nelson, or Keen. I need some strange. Iv'e searched in every query possible for new schematics. The best one is the ftp in Alberque, but even this: same schematics, just all of'm glomed in to one site. If anyone knows of some good ones, or if your'e in a similar situation, I got bu-coos of bookmarks

Answer:
The supply on line IS pretty limited. As in note in the section of my web page that talks about the history of schematics on line, they all came initially from the effects schematics swapping group started by Jamie Heilman in the days before web sites were much of anything. That group collected the original batch that got posted on Leper's musical archive before Jamie graduated and left additions and upkeep behind. Jamie donated the archive to ualberta and to Jack Orman. Jack added a few, including the PAIA ones, then deleted the original batch from Leper, and now periodically adds a few of his own. Justin and Aron picked up the originals and added a few to them, and Stellan and Rob Tomtlund have a site with a few more. There are a few more on my web site that are not replicated elsewhere. Except for the me-to's and the link collectors, that's it. You've already been BUILT all the ones that are available on line, eh? Good for you, the voice of experience. Not one of those people who just looks, and never builds - I like that in a netizen. The search engines are actually pretty good, so you've probably found all that there are. There are a couple of places that sell schematics, but I suspect that you've found those too. The availability of anything on line depends on someone being motivated to take the time to actually to do the work and post it. It's not automatic. I kind of wore myself out drawing schematics to post, so I only do it in frequently anymore, when the mood strikes me. A great thing you might consider is to find effects that are obscure or not available on line and trace them out - I provide instructions for how to do that fairly simply on GEO - and then draw them up and post them on line. That would expand all our knowlege bases. It's a lot of work, but that's how *every one* of the schematics on the net first got there. Give us all a hand. It's a quicker way to get some strange schematic than scouring the net another fifty times.
