Recommend a Guitar Multi-Effects Processor

Tagged As: Guitar Multi Effects

Question:
I am looking for a new floor based effects processor. I've always used older analog stomp boxes but after a while, I decided to give one of the lower end multi-effect processors a try simply because stomping on 2 -3 boxes to change or add effects in mid-song got a little old. I used to have a Boss GT3 and liked the ability to really set up some fairly elaborate effects but after a while, the rather harsh digital sound turned me off of the box and I sold it. I also hate amp modeling so that's not even a concern for me. Anyway, again dealing with a half dozen stomp boxes has gotten old so I'm going to give a processor another try. Anyone recommend anything that can give me a wide range of sounds and effects that has something of a warm, analog sound? I'd be playing a Strat through a Fender Super Reverb as well as a Les Paul through Marshalls. Most of the big music stores like Guitar Center, Sam Ash, etc just carry a lot of low end junk these days, it seems.

Answer:
take a look at TC Electronics' new G-System, which has been getting some raves for not only its sounds, but also for its signal routing and switching features (as well as allowing you to put the effects in the proper order pre and post effects loop, it also allows you to program channel and reverb switching on your amp). While I haven't tried it myself, I have heard others play with it, and was very impressed by its sound quality. It doesn't have built-in distortion, but it does have provisions for plugging in your favorite analogue boxes.
