Homemade Guitar Effects

Tagged As: Homemade Guitar Effects

Question:

Anyone here ever tried making their own? I don't want to try making any complicated digital delays or anything. I want to try to make an EH Small Stone. Do you think it will be very hard to do? I've got all the tools. My dad's an electrician, and he can read schematics, even though I can't.

Answer:
From what I've heard, it's basically more expensive to make them yourself, so the only reason you'd want to would be to make an FX that isnt' being manufactured anymore Vintage Small Stones in 80% new condition but perfect technical condition can be had for less than $100. Go for that. A diy one would be alot more. Put in a DPDT switch and you have a damn fine box with the worlds coolest paintjob. (other than the fuzz factory)

Well as a student of Electronic Engineering I can tell you take it depends on the pedal, but for the most part of "simple" effects it is very cheap to make, but then it's all about skill after that to make it sound "clean". If you're talking complex digital effects, you're right it is more expensive. One off effects, delays, fuzz, distortion...etc dirt cheap and obviously very customizable.
