Tagged As: How To Play Song On The Guitar
Question:
i'm a big fan of DMB and learned some of Dave's songs for the guitar. Anyway, I find it particularly hard to sing along with the music on a number of songs(Tripping Billies, What Would You Say, Warehouse, Crash, Satellite, Lie In Our Graves, Ants Marching, etc...) Does anyone have any tips on how to better sing along with what i'm pklaying. It gave me a whole new respect for Dave's talent in that he sings as well as he does while playing.

i know what you mean by having trouble playing-singing dave's songs at the same time myself (i play guitar and sing in a duo and also teach guitar lessons on weekends). i think it is uncommon to NOT have this problem. i think it is easier to start with stuff like song that jane likes, #41, and say goodbye, to name a few. songs like ants marching (which dave confesses is a bitch to play and sing at the same time) would not be the way to start. i personally find stuff like satelite or warehouse easiest since their rhythms and picking motions are very repetitious. i will try to cover playing and singing at the same time in the dmb guitar newsletters once they begin.
