Electric guitar help

Tagged As: How To Play The Electric Guitar Online

Question:
I'm lookin to get an electric guitar for christmas... I got an acoustic last year and would like to learn to play electric now as well... My price range isn't really too high, I just want somethin that'll sound decent. Here's the ones I'm lookin at online someplace, anyone have any opinions?

Answer:
It's not just the guitar that has to sound decent, it's the setup. Allow $30-$75 for a good setup job. A good tech can make almost any axe play like butter, and a guitar that's not set up right, even if it's a $3,500 Paul Reed Smith, will be hard to play and will sound like crap. Many first-time guitar buyers don't realize this. I would sugges a couple of inexpensive guitars that you might look at before you decide. The OLP MM-1 can be found at Guitar Centers for $199.00.I was ippressed with this one. Also the Dean Tonic.I got one brand new from ebay for $125.00 plus freight.I am very happy with this guitar.Check the reviews at www.harmony-central.co on these.I also like the Yamaha Pacifica.Guitar Center has them for $169.00.These are a Stratacaster copy, but play very niceley. You mayt want to read the reviews of the Rogue amps at the above mentioned website. You might want to consider a Marshall 15 watt practice amp(the one with reverb),or a Crate 15 watter.Either with reverb are about $100.00.Or look at ebay for a good used amp.I've bought three amps there, and all were excellant.I've played on several Marshalls and Crates, and they were pretty nice.Ibanez and Washburn make inexpensive amps, but I haven't had the chance to try either. You can buy either of these brand new at ebay.Theres also something like a good, used,Fender Frontman 25R.
