Tuning electric guitars

Tagged As: How To Use A Electric Guitar Tuner

Question:
Ive just had an electric guitar for xmas, Ive been playing acoustic for about 2 years and am familiar with how to use my electric tuner for that. With the electric though its confusing as the tuner has 2 holes in for the lead - one in the other out - which hole do I plug the lead into ? Can you tune it using just the sound as per the acoustic ?

Answer:
Plug your guitar into the tuner in, turn your tone pot to full treble, turn both or all pickups on with volume almost all the way up. When you're done tuning one string, mute it before tuning the next to avoid cross readings. The out on the tuner is to your amp, in the event you want to keep the tuner in line during playing, however there is some strong opinion that this affects the natural tone of the guitar
