Question:
It has a tiny blemish on the back, and was priced down to $350. I think that was a good price, but I'd like to hear from others that know better than me. Anyway, this is my first acoustic. I've been playing electric, although only for about 8 months. So here are my questions. - I'm having trouble bending on the Tak. Most of the trouble comes close to the nut, yet I have no trouble on the electric. Does the scale length have something to do with that? Does the shorter scale require more tension? For example, playing wish you were here, I can't bend for anything. No problem on the electric. - It's not a solid top. Will that make a difference to a relative beginner? How long before I notice that it's not as good? - The elctronics aren't very good. The EQ doesn't really accomplish anything. So, since I have 30 days to live with it and still bring it back to Guitar Center, I'm wondering if there are other choices and if they'd be worth the extra money.
Answer:
Bending is always more difficult on acoustics than electrics, especially the closer you get to the nut. You need more hand strength to play an acoustic than you do an electric also. Maybe keep it up for a few more weeks, you'll see progress. Also, the strings that guitars initially come with, I'd replace them, who knows how long theyve been on, how many grubby hands have been on them. Personally I like Martin Studio 11's Phosphor Bronze, nice clean sound. I also have a similar but older Takamine, and Im generally satisfied with it.
