OT: Good Guitar Amp Repair Shop?

Tagged As: Guitar Amp Repair

Question:
Looking for a relatively fast and cheap (ie. not Audio Electronics) shop in Dallas (preferably North Dallas) that can repair an old Ampeg tube amp. My friend is passing through town, and his amp got jostled in the ride. It's really crackly now and the reverb stopped working.

Answer:
I do my own, so I'd be checking the preamp tubes for the crackly sound (or the pots) and the reverb driver/recovery tube(s) for the reverb, as well as the connections to the reverb pan. The springs in a ypical accutronics style pan can break when jostled too much, so actually removing the pan and opening it up can be a pretty easy check. Remember, high voltages are present in a tube amp so be careful and take to a repair person if you can't do these fairly simple jobs. As for finding the repair guy, I'd post to alt.guitar.amps and ask for a dallas area tech. Ignore the political ravings there, lots of good amp info.
