Question:
My inclination would be that they would, but I have no idea. I have a couple of questions regarding this (if it exists). What are signs that a guitars pickups are deteriorating? What are remedies for this? What is the typical timetable on pickups before they start to deteriorate? I've had my electric guitar for a little over 10 years now, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was the culprit.
Answer:
What are signs that a guitars pickups are deteriorating? Signal loss. Overall, I'd say deteriorating isn't the proper term here. Usually what happens is you lose your magnetic field after years of playing. The only way I could see deteriation happening is if you leave it out in the sun, rain, etc. & corrosion sets in & the plastic deteriorates. What are remedies for this? You can get a pickup/magnet recharged. I can't remember right off what chemical they dip it in. What is the typical timetable on pickups before they start to deteriorate? Varies with use, how well you keep it, etc. If you guitar seems to have lost it's punch or seems to have lost the high end of it's tone, I would be more inclined to suspect deterioration of your volume/tone pots rather than of the pikups themselves. I eneded up replacing the volume and tone pots on my old ES125 and the change was amazing - like I had a brand new guitar again. (Also FAR cheaper that changig pickups.)
