Guitar repair shop in Mississauga (Toronto, Ontario area)

Question:

I was wondering if someone could suggest a guitar repair shop in Mississauga (prefferably) or in Toronto, Ontario. Also, does anyone have idea how much (approximately) re-attachement of the bridge on a classical guitar would cost?

Answer:

About $80 (de-tach, re-attach) if you still have the bridge....could be more in TO...everything is...This should include minor touch ups (blending the bridge into the finish)...if the bridge took some wood when it went south and you didn't bother to save it, you can add a few tooneys to the bin. I assume the tension is off the neck and you are only currently experiencing lifting at the back (towards the end pin) of the bridge. If this is the case, do not let the tech talk you into injections. No one knows what's creeped in underneath until they've removed the bridge completely, cleaned and prepared both surfaces (including inlaying any missing wood), re-attached the bridge (preferably with Hot Hide Glue, but just as effectively with Aliphatic Resin...no PVA and no Epoxy...at your peril). In my shop that would include a setup (you provide the strings) and a 3 month warranty...just to give you an indication...I'm a little shop in the Nations Capital. In Toronto, call Long and McQuade or Steve's, they should have a tech on site, or better yet, call a Folklore center or stringed instrument specialist...check in the yellow pages...they should have a good handle on who's the best for acoustic repairs/restoration person around...most likely a luthier type...In my experience (IME) chain stores tend to have a lot of solder iron geeks in 'em, so you might want to shop for someone more knowledgeable about the structure of a SSpanish (classical) guitar.
