Question:
I've been playing guitar for about a year now and I only took lessons for about 8 months to get my fingers going, after that I stopped and just played simple powerchord songs that i got tabs for off the internet, stuff like green day, blink 182, alien ant farm, puddle of mudd, limp bizkit, etc... right now i'm gonna start taking more lessons because i gotta write songs with my alternative-punk-metal band. So what i'm asking you guys is, what should i tell my teacher to teach me, so that i can write lil intro riffs like blink 182, solos like kinda like sum 41 and offspring, and heavy stuff like slipknot and metallica, as well as stuff like creed and puddle of mudd. and i want to kno alot of chords and how to use them to play emo-core things like jimmy eat world and such. also, i wanna kno how to do stuff like those gothics that go to guitar center and plug a LP into a mesa boogie full stack and just make up the phattest fast as hell trash metal heavily distorted crap ever. it sounds awesome. can u guys help me out, i wanna be a good alternative-punkrock guitar player, that can go as crazy as wes borland (old skool limp) and slipknot by making up a bunch of fast heavy riffs and solos on the spot (and knowing what i'm doing).

You asked, So what i'm asking you guys is, what should i tell my teacher to teach me, ... I would say you should just copy your post and bring it to your teacher. However, I would suggest that, in addition to learning that which you indicated, you consider also working on the following: 1. Learn to read music. You will free yourself to learn from 1000 years worth of musical exploration, rather that just the last few years. 2. Study the blues. Learn blues solos off records. Learn something about the history of the blues. Learn to feel the blues. Sooner or later, you will need that influence. 3. Find out about the following guitarists and listen to their playing
