Can you describe these black nylon strings for us?I have seen these advertised in the past, but don't really understand what they are. Are they used in place of steel strings? What are their characteristics?

Answer:
Good point. As an instructor I find myself reminding students frequently that it really takes only a small degree of pressure to articulate a tone on the guitar. As they sit there struggling mightily with white knuckles, perspiration and furrowed brow I call time out. Just have them lay the instrument face up on their lap and then feel the amount of pressure it takes to hold down a note with an extended index finger. This is one of those Zen [or less is more] aspects that doesn't seem to dawn on students at first. ....
