another guitar string question

Question:
I know that their are several variables regarding this question, but in general, how often should you replace your guitar strings. I fiddle around with my guitar for about an hour a day. Is monthly about right? Also, thanks to all of you for your responses and help with other questions I have posted. I find this newsgroup very helpful and interesting....sometimes even entertaining.

Answer:
It really depends on how much you play, how much you sweat, how heavy of guage strings you use, etc... For my pop and funk gigs, I use .010 - .046 on my PRS. I generally gig about 4 - 5 hours, 5 nights a week on an average. I have to change my strings about every three days. For my jazz gigs I use .012 - .056 on an L5, and only have to change the strings about once a month. A couple ways to know if you need to change the strings is, 1. if you just don't like the tone you're getting. It will be kind of flat sounding. 2. Also, you may notice you have more problems trying to keep your guitar in tune. One thing that will help keep your strings fresh is to wipe them down when everytime you're done playing. _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ http://TedVieira.com Free Online Guitar Instruction, Instructional Books, hear my CDs and more... -- The Guitarist Book of Scales & Arpeggios: http://tedvieira.com/books.html _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/
