jazz guitar strings

Tagged As: Jazz Guitar String

Question:
I am fairly new to the jazz guitar scene but absolutely love it! I would like to what jazz guitar strings anybody would recommend?

Answer:
There's so many string options, flatwound, halfround, roundwound, and then the assorted tensions. Then you have to take into consideration how the strings will sound with your existing pickups and/or amplifier setup. A certain amount of experimentation will be inevitable. What guitar do you use and what genre of jazz are you interested in playing? D'Addario has a number of options There are a few factors that influence string choice, such as gauge, winding, what kind of guitar you're playing, etc. I use D'Addario 1/2 rounds or flatwounds, the set w/ .012 on top, and these suit me well for a wide variety of situations. They're also pretty affordable, and last reasonably long; some folks replace only the trebles when they get flabby, but that's a personal choice. I tried Thomastik GB-12s, and didn't like them at all, but again, that's a personal thing...
